I received a VIN equipment report for a 2018 Ram ProMaster, and 6L4 is listed as “Paint Order Code. This code identifies a factory paint color, stripe, badge, or exterior appearance treatment” Before I order parts, I want to confirm that the code reliably identifies the original configuration.

The dealer should be able to pull a VIN-specific equipment or parts record. Ask them to search by VIN rather than entering only the three-character code.

Check the production month as well as the model year. Mid-year changes are one reason two vehicles with the same badge can have different hardware or descriptions.

If the feature is listed but not working, scan all related modules before assuming it was removed. A stored fault, replacement module, or configuration mismatch can make original equipment appear absent.
