4XH — Power Windows Bypass. This code identifies a factory body, glass, closure, mirror, or exterior hardware configuration. Browse Sales Code codes →

The dealer gave me a different interpretation of 4XH than the online description “Power Windows Bypass. This code identifies a factory body, glass, closure, mirror, or exterior hardware configuration” This is for a 2013 Ram ProMaster. Could both descriptions be valid for different production periods?

The safest interpretation is the one tied to the exact VIN, model year, platform, and market. In general, 4XH matches “Power Windows Bypass. This code identifies a factory body, glass, closure, mirror, or exterior hardware configuration” but the included hardware can vary between applications.

That code should be read as a factory configuration identifier, not necessarily a guarantee of a separate dashboard control. Some equipment operates automatically or is bundled with another system.

A clear photo of the build label, VIN report, and the relevant component would help. Do not post the full VIN publicly; the last eight characters are normally enough for a parts-counter discussion.

If you are documenting the vehicle, save both the original wording and the readable explanation. That preserves the factory terminology while making the record understandable later.

This sounds more like a documentation mismatch than a decoder error. Different databases often shorten the same factory description in different ways.

On these vehicles, similar descriptions can use different codes because of supplier changes or package combinations. The code itself is useful, but the VIN-specific parts catalog is better before ordering anything.

I have seen this on a similar Ram ProMaster. The basic description was correct, but one related feature was part of a separate package. I would not assume the code includes every item mentioned in marketing material.

I would start by checking the original build sheet and then compare the physical equipment on the vehicle. A sales or option code confirms the factory record, but it does not prove that every original component is still installed.
